posted 07-07-2005 04:51 PM ET (US)         '87 Montauk has soft wood under aft end of port cleat. Started in area relieved on underside for bungee knot. IMHO this design is inadequate. Cleat should have had a relieved slot from front to back in line with the mounting screws to allow the wood to dry. If deck not allowed to collect any sand, dirt, etc. the antiskid may privide drainage. One cleat OK the other has more "dirt" and rot.
