There is a small leak of what I'm assuming is gearcase fluid coming from below the prop out onto the skeg on a '85 Johnson 150. Has anyone experienced this and is it a sign the gearcase seals need to be replaced?

What symptoms would you experience if the gearcase had low or no gearcase fluid?

Dave,

Don't jump to conclusions; it's most likely just unburned fuel oil dripping out. This is perfectly normal.

If the gearcase has sprung a leak you should be able to tell by looking at a sample of the gearcase oil. If it is milky, then it has water in it and you know you have a problem.

All the old V4 Johnsons do that. It is most likley just the drainage from the exhaust housing. You can check your lower unit fluid for water to be certain, because if Oil is getting out, water being less viscous is certainly getting in. BillS
