I have a Montauk with a 92 Evenrude 70 horse 3 cylinder that needs to be rebuilt. I have seen several places on the web that will rebuild the power head. Has anybody used somebody they can recommend. A new motor is out of the budget so it is fix this one or buy a used motor but I am leary about buying someone else's headache. Thanks in advance, Wade

You can buy remanufactured powerheads with a warranty, and ship yours back to get a core charge refund. IBOATS.com forum would be my first point to start getting some information and costs for your block. When I blew a Merc 175 10 years ago, I used a local machine shop referred to me by my local Sea-ray dealer in town. They used his services as well versus doing their own rebuilding in house at that time. You might also check with some local dealer service departments to see who they recommend. It is not that hard to swap out a powerhead and does not take any special tools. Tearing into the lower end is a different story.... I hate needle bearings. BillS |
