In that really detailed article in www.tackletour.com about mounting a 24 gal Pate tank in a Montauk 170, I had just one question/point of clarification....

The rear holddown brackets are mounted on blocks whereas the front are not. What is the issue here? I understand that there is no backing underneath the part of the deck behind the RPS where these rear brackets go and that consequently all you have is the deck material to grab the screws, but what do the blocks accomplish - you still have to screw the block down with self-tapping screws - why would they be less likely to pull out under load than if you screwed the supports directly into the deck?

I think all the blocks do is give the tank something solid to lean on. Blocks in the rear because the tank wants to slide back underway. On mine I've got blocks front and rear for trailering (hard braking).
