Earlier I had written about a clunking random noise only at idle RPM. Most felt it was the jet/impeller that was the source and a few guys suggested just increasing the idle setting until it stops. This morning I took the boat out in the water and ran it for a while (the noise gets worse and more frequent after using the boat for about 1/2 hour). I then stopped the boat and "disconnected" the impeller like you would to clean out seaweed. I figured I would then know if the impeller had some sort of wobble causing the mystery noise. When I restarted the engine, the noise was worse and almost continuous. What do you think? It seems to me that it must be something in the gearbox.

Yes Bob, I checked the fluid. No discoloration, no odor, no metal shavings that I could detect. Any other suggestions? |
