As I see it , the only good way to mount a large trolling motor on a Nauset is to use both the bow deck and bow gunwale to fiberglass in a large wood mounting plate. This, however, would create potential for foam separation due to torque from normal trolling motor operation, as well as from merely running the boat fast in rough water. If some degree of foam separation were to occur in this relatively protected area , what are the likely real life consequences , if any? The best solution is a post-1976 Montauk which apparently is when the 4" embedded wood bow step was introduced.I have located a Nauset in excellent condition , save for the 1969 motor which the owner says is in excellent condition , but which I believe could last 10 years or one day. Most post-1976 Montauk advertisements are asking way over $10,000. How much are good post-1976 Montauks actually bringing? Do you agree that I should simply keep looking for a post-1976 Montauk , or are old excellent hulls so rare that I should buy the Nauset for the asking price of $5500?
