Are outboards made with a standardized bolt pattern? A local dealer, without seeing the boat, is telling me he needs to redrill the transom to change from a 1998 Evinrude V6 to a new Mercury V6. MartyD

The dealer is wrong. The bolt pattern has been standard for a very long time. It was OMC (Evinrude) that established it.

If I am switching from a 1984 70 hp Johnson to a 2006 Yamaha will the transon bolt pattern be different? What is used as a transon filler if so?
