1963 Nauset, original helm control. I need to remove the center console, but to do so it seems I have to remove the cable for the steering. How does the cable come out of the helm control? I have opened it up, but nothing seems obvious. Oh, steering wheel and other pieces are removed.

Our console has a removable "door" ? where the cables come out of the tunnel and through the bottom that is wide enough to slip the entire helm out without removing the cable. Perhaps it is a later option?

You need a nail to poke into the hole on the cast part of the helm. It will release the cable and you can pull it out.
