I was calling Mills on some of the specials they have. I inquired how much a new Suntop would be for an Outrage 18. They quoted a price for the sumbrella in Pacific Blue and gave an option of having the pockets (where your poles go through) either sewn in (which is like the one I have now from Whaler) or zippered in, which makes it removable for cleaning or repair if necessary.

Any experience with the zippered suntops? Are they as durable as the sewn pockets as it was done originally?

Thanks
Sterling

I had zippered canvas on my 15 with no problems, but I never did need to remove the canvas.

I would think that it might be nice to have that option, should you need it, though I don't think Sunbrella recommends using a washing machine for your canvas!

The nice thing about this is that you can remove the canvas to re-attach buttons/snaps if necessary, or do any sewing/mending that might eventually be necessary, without having to remove the frame from the boat.

If it is not an up-charge in price, I'd go with the zippers personally.

If you store the boat for long periods, you can remove the canvas and store it in your basement/indoors with your cushions, etc; rather than exposed to any water/rodents or other potential problems during storage.
