Greetings,

this is my first post to the site which I found today. So much fun stuff. I am in the planning stage of restoring what is I think a 17' (16'7")Sakonnet and I am trying to determine if the center console and adjustable seat are teak or mahogany. I was under the impression that it is teak but a saw a post stating that teak was not used until 1971. It is varnished currently and I want to make sure I refinish properly. Any suggestions on proper id of the wood is greatly appreciated.

thank you

David

David,

Welcome. The wood used in your boat is Philippine mahogany and mahogany plywood. It is not teak.
