on my 68 newtauk I am installing a bimini that has stainless secondary supports and soft straps for the third point. I notice on the new whalers that the solid secondary support is put in the front and the straps at the rear. Is there any advantage of having the secondary fixed point either in the front or the rear?

thanks

I put my solid supports in the rear. The way I figure it, when underway, the load gets supported by the rear rigid member acting as a pillar. In front, the load is trying to pull apart the joints in the support acting as a stay or a rod if you prefer. In other words, in front the load is trying to pull the support apart, in the rear it's pushing all of the parts of the support tighter together.
