I have an 1987 Montauk with considerable subtle blistering from 18 years of mooring in 2-1/2 feet of water on a fairly exposed beach. The gelcoat has long been destroyed, in my opinion. I use an oxidation remover/wax or cleaner/wax annually. The boat is kept indoors over the winter, and I have no idea how much damage has been done. I'm just looking for advice on how to proceed. Thanks.

If you do a goole search on "Osmotic Blistering" +Repair, you'll find some good sites that go into detail on the process. In extreme cases, the remains of the gelcoat is ground off, fairing putty is applied, then lots of sanding and filling followed by a new sprayed on application of gelcoat. It is labor intensive and expensive if you farm the work out. BillS |
