To install a new steering cable and tilt tube I had to remove the engine. Took it to a friends who has a ceiling mounted wench. Since it is a 90 hp and weighs close to 400 pounds we were hesitant to strap it.

Called the Marc dealer and he stated we needed a special tool that screws into the top flywheel. Not something I have!!

Found a mobile marine repair man at 1/2 the price of the Marc dealership. When we took off the housing to install the crankshaft lifting eye he informed me I don't have a Merc...but a Yamaha.

He removed two small bolts holding the plastic protective crank cover and low and behold two lifting eyes - turns out I could have done this and saved myself $60.

Good news; it is a Yamaha.

It's a Mercaha. Yamaha powerhead on a Merc lower unit. Merc
sold a bunch of them while they were getting their own
4-stroke powerhead together.

And that "ceiling mounted wench". Was she pretty? ;-)
