As some of you know I have reproduced files to remake capacity plates for as many whaler models as I can get info on (files hosted on whalercentral). I do often get emails from people to looking to source new or remade plates for their whalers. Unfortunately / or fortunately since I have access to the tools needed to print decals I was able to remake my own with out having to source a company. The unfortunate side of this equation is I would receive emails for people looking for me to recreate these plates. Of course these people would offer to pay me but, I did not have permission from Whaler or NMMA to use there names for the purposes of making money. Not wanting to get into a copyright nightmare I did some for members I would consider friends at no cost. This of course is a losing proposition any way you look at it. I have no problems helping others with their Whalers related needs but, it is unfeasible to make one for everyone who has sent me an email. Even if I got paid for each one I made. Fortunately I have found a solution to this dilemma thanks to Norm Derbyshire. Norm emailed a link to me for http://custommarinelabels.com/ . Here you can have a new capacity plate reprinted you just need to provide all the correct information. He has ordered one of these labels and will let me know how it turns out.
1 Drill out the factory rivets to get the plate off the 2 Clean and resurface the back of the original plate. I typically would take the plate on a good flat surface and hammer out any imperfection, then take a fine flat file and get the surface as flat and possible. I would then finish it all off with a wipe down of lacquer thinner. 3 Apply a new white vinyl to the surface. 4 using the recreated production file I print the image on a clear 5 I apply a final UV clear Mylar over it all, trim the edges and recut 6 I reattach the plate with small stainless screws and a little 3m 4200 Here is an images on the one I made for my outrage Now Jim, I know the continuouswave prefers to support OEM Whaler vendors and if Janis at Magic brush (draftsmans wife) would like the files I have done to print new Capacity plates I would love to provide with the files I have. As of right now this is the only supplier I know of claiming to reprint these plates. |
