I am having a tough time removing the bow bit on my 85 Outrage 18. The screws (phillips) are not turning. I have one that has come off ~1 turn using my impact tool (hammer type). Is this screwed into a metal plate or wood? If I drill the screws out will I create a worse scenario?

Thanks

The bow bit screws go into an aluminum plate in the hull, 3/8" I think. After twenty some years, the stainless steel machine screws are typically seized. It is very difficult to remove them. Your best bet may be to drill off the screw heads, remove the bit and then (hopefully) be able to grip the remaining shank with some ViseGrips and back them out.

Before you do anything, try applying some good penetrating oil like Aero Kroil, but even WD-40 may help.
