I would go to the store (westmarine or the like) and pick up some of the pamphlets they have there and ask the guys who work in there as well. In general there are two types of paint, hard and ablative. Both rely on copper (cuprous oxide) to keep the critters from growing on your boat. The ablative paint actually wears itstelf off, the hard only dissapates its copper over time. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Some cant sit on a trailer for any length of time or they loose their effectiveness.Prep can also vary. Yours might just involve a good cleaning and a rough up of the bottom with sandpaper to give the paint a tooth to grip onto. You can also put a barrier coat on under the paint, but it sounds like it wont be moored full time, just for certain periods during the year. Probably not a very long or involved job, just do some research and you should be ok. |
