I recently aquired an all brass Morse control. It looks like it has bicycle sprockets running under it. It is a beautifull piece of nautical history that will do just fine in my collection, but I would sure like to know if I could adapt it to my [motor]. [Can this be done]? Thanks.

Are you sure it is a Morse control? Is it dual lever or single lever? I do not ever remember seeing one of these from Morse. I know that Kobelt made one. |

I had those a long time ago. If it's the same kind, it's a single action. And mine was chrome covered bronze. Anything is possible but I think that would be a major pain to rig. Mine had pulleys below the binacle in the engine room and turnbuckles to tighten. It gets real fun when you are going through some locks and the chain comes off the sprocket because you didnt tighten the turnbuckles. Luckily in my case it was a beautiful summer day with only a few hundred tourists watching. |
