Author Topic:   25ft outrage Hull Damage

I had to pull my 1989 25 outrage out of the water today because of a huge amount of water coming in the boat. When I got it on the trailer I found the lower chine on the Starbourd side spewing water. There is a crack along the chine for about three feet from just past the console to near the end of the chine. There is also a vertical crack at the start of the damage in the chine. Any ideas on how to repair this? Do I need to replace the chine?
Any help would be appreciated.

is the vertical crack near the fuel filler?

Sounds like water was forced into a crack while you were underway (whether caused by impact or something else) and opened the chine up as the pressure forced water out.

My suggestion for repair would be open the crack up, let the moisture forced in dry, and then repair as shown in the reference section. There is a good narrative on fixing a chine there.

If the original crack was near the fuel filler (which happened on some older 25s) there is a "patch" method you can get details on from whaler. Basically it amounts to several layers of glass added in increasing widths over the crack, then re faired into the hull.
