I own a 1968 currituck. The boat is entirely original except for the1986 evinrude 65 commercial repowering. Should i stay with the original wood or replace as needed. 2 inches would to be removed from the deck mount area . the cockpit top has been sanded down deeply into the lamination. the boat has never been bottom painted. the sides are as new. the bottom had many gouges temporarily filled with marine tex. I need a more permanent way to solve this problem.I donot want to ruin this (my first) boat. I bought it from the state of Massachusetts ..it was specked out as a work boat and whaler has told me it is built better and stronger than stock. Any suggestions?

Replace the wood as needed. You could use the original piece as a template for the new mahogany, if it is not that badly deteriorated. The assembly of the Currituck console/thwart seats is not complicated. It’s a classic and you should keep her that way (my opinion) – they are great boats.
