I am in the process of restoring my 71' Outrage back to original where possible. The black rubrail is chalked and white in many areas. I tried acetone, waxing, Armour All, and even wet sanding and waxing. In the end the closest I got to what I wanted in terms of look (dark, shiny black) was to use teak oil! Does anybody have something better? Many thanks, Sean |

Sean I tried every chemical and technic to get my white part of my rub rail system on my 22' 85 Outrage back to it's original condition with no luck. I'm a painting contractor and it got to the point to either paint the white or replace the rub rail. A few years ago in searching the" Waves" archives I came across two post by member [ tarbaby ]. It was late at night but I hopped in my Jeep and went to my shop and tried his method. And holy shit it works, but it takes time to do it. After peeling a light sanding of 220 + or - and then apply a dressing to the rub rail. http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/008230.html The link below is of picture of my white rub rail where it was once stained from the previous owner slopping teak oil on it. Them oilers think that taping is not needed as long as they wipe it clean. Wrong! In a few months the stains will start to appear It will work on the your black rail just as well. http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/jerrym4/Mics/?action=view& current=IMG_6898.jpg Jerry |
