[I] was out fishing last weekend when I started having some [problems] with power on the [2003 Mercury OptiMax 225-HP] motor. The [2003 Mercury OptiMax 225-HP] was running fine when it suddenly started bogging down and loosing power. After this happened I shut the motor down and had troubles trying to get it started again. Once it was started there was not enough power to even get the boat on [plane]. I took the cover off the [2003 Mercury OptiMax 225-HP] and noticed a hose was off on the back side of the compressor. I reconnected the hose. Then I also noticed that I can rock the compressor pulley back and forth, and oil is leaking from underneath the pulley. It appears the bearing on the end cap is shot. Will [a bad end cap bearing associated with the compressor on a 2003 Mercury OptiMax 225-HP] cause engine troubles?
I have not yet tried running it since I reconnected the hose because I figure I should address the compressor problem, too. Anyone ever seen [a malfunction or failure or problem] like this on the Mercury OptiMax motor?
Will replacing the end cap solve my problems? Or is it a coincidence that the hose fell off causing the engine problem at the same time the compressor end cap bearing went out?
Thanks for any insight into a solution.
