2000 Dauntless 16'. Standard 54qt cooler in front of the console. Yesterday the plastic latch broke off the lid when I was securing it. Replacement latches are available. http://www.igloo-store.com/product_detail.asp?T1=IGL+9350&HDR= My boat is not at my house now and I can't remember whether the latch attaches with screws. Has anybody replaced their latch on a similar year cooler? |

All plastic latches and hinges will break sometimes sooner or later. I replaced the hinges with some cheap bronze hinges from local store, they have worked great. I will be looking for some SS hinges and front SS clasp that will work to make it even better. I saw a new Gott, I think, at Gander Mountain new store here in central Florida that had SS clasp on it. |

Same boat (2003), same cooler, same broken latch, same replacement source. It goes on with a couple of small stainless screws. Total replacement time is about 90 seconds. The shipping cost was ridiculous; buy 2 and stow the other one for when you need it next time. -Bob |

Thanks Bob. I stopped by West Marine on my way to work this morning and purchased an Igloo latch kit (with screws) for $6.99 plus tax. Higher price but no shipping. I showed my new BoatUS card but I can't figure out when I will see the 4% discount (I joined this year to get some on-water towing coverage because my motor is 8-years old). Considering a new Igloo 54qt marine cooler is approx $45 that seems expensive but I guess I am paying for distribution. [I am a miser at heart.] |

Barely escaped a dumb move. The latch kit came with no instructions. Took the new latch down to the boat and it was about a half-inch too tall. What? The latches are supposed to be a standard size! Later in the day I took the cooler up to the house to drill new holes to relocate the latch peg. Fortunately I compared the broken latch to the new one. Exact match. I finally realized the latch folds backwards over the mounting flange. <Feel dumb.> I wouldn't have thought instructions for something as simple as a cooler latch would be necessary. |
