I have a 1987 Yamaha 90 HP.(17'Montauk) Looking for a diagram or a step by step to replace impller. Have complete water pump / impeler kit and want to make sure I have the right tools etc. for this repair. Boat is not close to home, but still on trailer. Last change is not known. Guess is 5 or 6 yrs. ago. What might I expect to run into with this replacement.

A very good tutorial on replacing an impeller on a 115 HP Yamaha is available. It is very similar to your 90 HP Yamaha. The link to it is below.

While you have it down, look at yoru shift linkage rod for corrosion. Pre 1991 are steel rods that dwindle down and twist.

Where did you find the best prices for the pump and impeller? OEM?

I bought it on line from WWW.marineengine.com $33.44.plus S&H $8.85 ( Water Pump Kit )They did leave out an additional item I ordered, but shipped right away.

Remove impeller and check the condition of the pump, most times only the impeller needs to be changed because newer pumps are SS, etc.
