My 1980 Outrage 22 has Hynautics-brand hydraulic steering system. I understand Hynautics was bought out by Teleflex, but Teleflex has little information on the Hynautics system. What informaiton they do have does not seem to cover my system.

Where to find more information on Hynautics?

Is anyone intimately familiar with maintenance on the Hynautics system?

What are your [maintenance problems] with your Hynautic system?

The drawing I have shows two ports on the hub to bleed the system but the hub on the boat has only one port. The mech says he can't purge with just the one port.

Call Teleflex. They provide good service over the phone.

My boat has the Hynautic system. Excellent product. Seal kits still seem to be available too. Don't understand ports and hub. Are you saying the steering cylinder only has one bleed screw?

In my (limited) experience, hydraulic steering systems usually have the air in them bled from the steering cylinder actuator, not from the pump. Excess fluid is provided at the helm pump, pumped through the system, and air is forced out at the actuator cylinder. Teleflex has engineered and manufactures new bleed fittings that can be adapted to most existing cylinders to permit the system to be bled more easily.

In my (limited) experience, Teleflex provide absolutely first-class support via telephone and email. They also provide extensive literature on their products which can easily be located and downloaded. Literally all requests for advice on Teleflex products are usually answered by recommendations to get the Teleflex literature or to contact their customer service.

Gents,
Thanks for your replies.
Teleflex did provide good support. After bleeding the system, I found the seals needed to be replaced. However, the H-60 replacement seal kit available from Teleflex today does not match up with the H-60 Hynautics steering pump installed on my 1980 Outrage. I installed a new Teleflex pump.
