I have a 2005 Mecury OptiMax 150. At slow speeds under a load (like slow running against a strong tide) an alarm sounds. If I reduce throttle to a crawl, [the alarm extinguishes]. If I [increase] throttle [the alarm extinguishes]. At that one [throttle setting that] I need to go (in a NO-WAKE zone) it is a probem.

I [plan to] change impellors and thermostats. I cannot see any restrictions on oil hoses or gas hoses. A Mercury mechanic couldnt figure out [the cause of the alarm]. Help [deduce the cause of the alarm from the information given].

Have you deduced meaning of the alarm? What are the possibilities in your alarm system? Typical alarm systems often provide a warning for over-heating and for low oil reservoir level. Are there other possibilities? Please list them.

What is the water pressure reading in the cooling system at the three different throttle settings?

What is the cylinder head temperature at the three different throttle settings?

One way to deduce what is causing the alarm is to isolate which sensor is triggering it. For example, when the alarm is sounding, disconnect the temperature sensor on the cylinder head. If the alarm extinguishes, that was the sensor causing it.

Good thoughts, I will take into consideration. I am going out today but only to watch the air show in ATlantic City nj from the water. I will have to have my guy help me with those testes and the pulling of the wire for each sensor is also a good idea. I will let you know and thanks for your response.
