I have a 1991 Outrage 19 that has trim tabs on it. I have owned the boat for about 10 years and have used the trim tabs very, very infrequently. I am planning on doing quite a bit of work to the boat this winter and am considering removing the tabs alltogether. The edges are sharp and have caused cuts, and they have leaked fluid twice. I plan to eventually re-power with a 150-HP four-cycle motor. Should I keep the tabs to help offset the added weight of the new motor? Or will I be able to [offset the added weight of the new motor] with its tilt-trim? Will

While I defer to the experts, I would wait till after the re-power. Then you can tell if still needed. |

Round off the edges so they are not so sharp and keep them on there. If nothing else, they are handy for balancing the load on your boat. I wish I had them on my 22. |

KEEP! Tabs effectively lengthen the boat's [hull], as there is more surface area for the water to work on. Great for putting a little more hull in the water to smooth out a ride, and great for correcting list from passenger-gear imbalance.People pay a lot extra for them; there is a reason. Keep them. |

Keep, I have a 1985 18-foot boat with a four-cycle motor, and wish that I had tabs on it. I have to trim the motor down to keep the bow down on rough water. |

Will, You most likely have Bennetts. They are Hydraulic, and that's why they leak. Where are they leaking from? |

the first leak was where the line passes through the transom to the tab, the new leak in in the hydraulic fluid recepticle inside of the console (total mess!) |
