I have a 1997 Boston Whaler Rage, and the starboard bow running light stopped working. Upon further inspection, the wire inside the light assembly has corroded and broken at the base of the unit. I tried pulling up more wire to make a splice, but can't get any more wire up from inside the hull. I need to remove the black base assembly to access the hole below and hopefully find more wire. I can't figure out how to get the black baseplate removed from the body of the boat. There are no visible screws, and gentle pulling/prying don't work. Is this thing glued in place? Any ideas on how to get this lifted from it's place? I have a photo here for reference : Any help much appreciated. |

I figured it out. For the archive.... Although the mount (Perko light) has 3 holes in it for mounting with screws, this one didn't, making me think it was fastened to the hull some other way. After closer examination, I discovered the base was stuck to the hull using silicone adhesive. I slipped a knife around the base and got it off. Not sure if this is factory or if someone else did it, but it was on there tight. Back to the water... |
