Has anyone been able to locate a compatible oil filter [apparently for a 350-HP V8 Yamaha outboard motor] other than the Yamaha Filter which seems to sell at about $35?

Take it to K-Mart and start looking. My 70 Suzuki use a Samurai filter for $2.99.

Bill, I have a Chevy Diesel Truck, I tried to purchase an after market filter, after getting it I could see it was inferior, and after spending $50,000.00 for a diesel truck I decided stick to the factory filter for a couple dollars more, Its just not worth it... You payed big bucks for that engine. Get the factory filter (also they cannot say you voided the warranty using an after market filter). I would check to buy a couple of filters at once to get a better deal...good luck to you

I'll second contenders suggestion. Shop around online. I've seen quite a range of pricing for other Yamaha parts.

Oil filters vary WIDELY in quality. Fram used to be one of
the best brands (OEM on Ferraris). I used them for a lot
of years. Then the cost accountants
got involved. They are crap now. Some parts, and I don't
mean the filter material, are paper.

Do some Googeling on oil filter quality. There are several
folks who have bought a bunch of brands and cut them open. \ The results are quite eye-opening.

Me, I like Wix. My problem is that the local parts house
now sells Wix with THEIR box and part number. Who knows what
got cost-reduced.
