I have boat in Southwest Florida on a lift with twin Yamaha F115 motors. This boat gets limited use; about 15 to 18 hours twice a year, 10 days in November and 10 days in April. What do you think my maintenance schedule should be? I have been changing the crankcase oil (Quicksilver Fourstroke Oil Synthetic 25W-40) and filter after each 10-day period of use (15 to 18 hours) and changing the gear lube once a year. I change the Yamaha 10-micron water separators, spark plugs, pull the props and grease the shaft once a year. I run Mercury Quickclean and Startron in every tank of fuel, fog the engines and spray the blocks with WD40 before layup. I also have the water pumps changed every three years. Changing the oils and filter is not fun and I always worry about a possible spill. Is this over kill for the limited run time the engines get or just semi-inexpensive insurance?

You might get a bunch of standard factory rhetoric but I'd call Yamaha Customer Relations and ask them for their opinion. The # is in your owner's manual. Also, Andy from Shipyard Island Marine is a certified dealer. I'll ask him to post here.

If you are comfortable with the $$ that you are spending, why not keep it up? It obviously is working for ya.

Not using an outboard requires as much maintenance as using one in my opinion.

The only item I would add is make sure you pump the primer bulb firm before even turning the key on for the engine. This assures the vapor separator is full of fuel before that VST electric fuel pump kicks on with the key on. Running those pumps low on fuel will wear them out prematurely. With the engine sitting for 7 months, that can happen.

Make sure you use a fuel stabilzer product all the time with that lack of use time period.

Andy

One of the things I was wondering is; are there other products I can use to extend the service intervals? Can I use the BRP HPF XR Gearcase Lubricant or HPF PRO Gearcase Lubricant that E-Tec's use with a three year service schedule? Andy I will be sending you an email for some parts.

Joe...Your gearcase oil will go 3 years without being changed as well. I change mine every 100 hours with the engine oil and use synthetic in both instances.

Quicksilver...supposably the best.
