Traynor's Super Seahorse 35 is of a 1958/1959 vintage. From 1960 to 1975, Johnson didn't sell a 35 HP motor in the U.S. In 1976, when the then new 32 cubic inch model 35 HP was introduced, Johnson did not call it a "Super Seahorse".

The first 35 Seahorse was 1957 with a white top cover and red-bronze colored sides on the clam-shell aluminum motor cover. The '58 35 had a bronze top and white sides on the clam-shell or Gold and chrome for the Javelin series. The last old-style 35 was in 1959 and it had a one-piece fiberglas hood, white with a gold "halo" on top.

An RDS-21 is a 1959 35hp.

Your 35hp Super Seahorse is a 1958, and 40 cu. in. I believe they went to 40hp in 1959. Here is a picture of its sister, a restored 1958 35hp Evinrude Lark on my 13 footer.

They were great reliable motors but thirsty with 24:1 fuel oil ratio, (1qt. oil to 6 gallons of gas) I don`t run it on my 13 footer anymore though, I now run a `08 Merc/Tohatsu. Both motors will push the boat at the same speed, 30mph.
I also have a `57 Evinrude Lark which is 30hp, and 36cu. in. but not restored.
These motors are popular at the AOMCI meets, as there are many still round, and parts are cheap and plentiful. If you have one and like old motors join AOMCI, lots of good times.
