Looking to possibly add power trim to newer manual motor.

1.
I assume if the model was offered in both manual and power versions, then a trim assembly can be added relatively easy... is this correct?

2.
I know these units are very pricey new, but I've seen a few on ebay that are less than a CMC. Anybody know where I can find info on what part # is or what models use the same units? boats.net didn't have anything listed even though I know these are available with power trim.

2007 20hp 4 stroke

Thanks,
Andrew

I did the conversion to power trim and tilt to a 1992 Mariner 25 HP 2 stroke motor. It was the same unit for at least the 20, 25 and 30 HP models. The kit that I got from Mercury was pretty easy to install and came with easy to follow instructions. I rigged it with a trim switch that was on a coiled cord (like a phone receiver). The whole conversion was about $350 if I remember correctly. Worked great.

Your best bet would be to consult with a dealer. I was lucky, the dealer I used in Wisconsin at the time was very cooperative and helpful.

The hardest part was hiding the relays. In a tiller boat like an Alumacraft, I put the extra wiring and relays in a gray plastic circuit box mounted to the transom. If you have a side or center console you can easily hide them under that.

It was a fun project. Not hard but just a little time consuming. One long afternoon.

I just remembered the hardest part. I had to remove the reverse lock down rod. The rod that engages the lock so the motor doesn't pop up in reverse. That was NOT easy. The power trim unit holds the motor down in reverse so the rod has to be removed.

Ok, thanks... I see that I neglected to say that mine was a Yamaha. But I 'll check the part # of similar models like you suggested.

Looks like in the best case scenario it would only be slightly cheaper than a CMC PT-35... but still worth investigating.

Thanks
