I have to re-paint the bottom of my 15-footer; the old paint is faded blue. What do you think on the appropriate color for bottom paint? Match the gelcoat as closely as possible like I saw one member on here do? Use Black? Use Blue? It's a 1982 SPORT 15 with a 1987 60-HP Mercury.

Also, I'm thinking of upgrading the fuel tank. Will an 18-gallon Moeller tan fit under the seat? Or stick with a 15-gallon?

Thanks in advance.

In 1984 Boston Whaler changed to Desert Tan inside and out. The bleach white sides of my 1982 Sport 15 are not seen all that often anymore, and is close to factory. With newer bottom paints available today, you may want to consider going white; thinner, smoother, and less drag for racing type hull finishes. Email me for pictures of the 1982 or of the 1988, including removal of three 20-year-old layers of bottom paint.

For fuel tanks you should do a search of aluminum tanks available. If interested, I can forward pictures of my 1982 19-gallon installation, and available twin 19-gallon epoxy coated aluminum tank for my 1988 15 Sport, which fits below the original rear thwart. It was built last summer and has not yet been installed. Good luck. zotcha.

For a fuel tank to fit under the seat of a SPORT 15 depends on which seat, fore or aft, and if the seats have been raised to the top of the riser boards or not.

Paint color is your choice - I'm kinda partial to the bright green myself. One trick is to put on two coats, of different colors. Then when you see the underneath color, you know it's time to repaint.

Also, the 18-gallon Moeller is 1" taller than the 15 and the other dimensions are the same; if it will fit, go for it!

Thanks - if I go white, do I need to prime or strip the old bottom paint (light blue) so that it doesn't show through? It hasn't been gone over in a while as the boat is trailered, so it is quite faded.
