I just finished building a new ski platform for our Outrage 18. Other members on CW have asked about ski platforms - where to buy or where to look at pictures of custom built ones. I decided to custom build mine so as to meet our specific needs and there was nothing I could find on the market. We needed a platform that a skiier could use to put on a slalom ski with tight bindings while staying on the boat rather than floating out in the water - much safer and easier than putting on a ski out in the water. I have not yet tested it but have put a lot of thought into the design. Of course, size could be modified for different size Whalers, 17 and up. It does sit slightly above the drain tubes or water line so as not to interfere with trolling. I also added a handle to the Rude to assist the tired skiier returning into the boat. Hopefully this will also assist the cold water skiing in which some people develop "lock hand" where they can't let go of the boat to drop into the frigid water (otherwise known as flat water. I hope these pictures help other builders. I have more pictures available if anyone wants them sent.

Testing ski platform.

Have had the chance to try out new ski platform. So far, it seems to be working out very well. I have done some trolling and it seems to ride just above the water at slow trolling speeds. For skiing it is great. It allows the skier to get into the bindings while standing on the platform, before jumping into the water. We did remove the telescoping step as most of us seem to prefer to just hop onto the platform when returning to the boat. I can put the telescoping step back on with a pin for someone that is tired or otherwise having difficulty getting back onto the platform. With the skier back on the platform putting on their ski it stays about water line. If more people come to the rear of the boat the platform goes deeper below the water line so works better with passengers staying forward in the boat. The platform also aids in stepping from the boat onto a friends beached houseboat that we often visit. Here are a few pictures of us trying out the platform:
