I have a 1989 Outrage 20 with a whaler drive. I was wondering if it is ever necessary from a maintenance perspective to re-fasten/re-bed or re-torque the whaler drive.

Thanks

Unless you see an unusually wide gap along the top line of where the Whaler Drive meets the transom, you are probably good to go. I believe the 4 long, thru-bolts are embedded in the whaler drive cavity/foam, so trying to re-torque them without a clear problem to correct will unnecessarily break the bolts free from their bedding. You will periodically need to re-caulk the joint though. Boat-life caulk works well.

P.S. If you ever want to sell your rig, let me know. I am passively looking for a classic 20' Outrage/Whaler-drive.
