I [want] to buy a Boston Whaler 13-foot boat for my husband to use as a lake fishing boat, however, our lake only allows 6.6-HP on fishing boats. Can you actually move a tiller 6.6-HP motor onto one of these with steering controls? Thanks!

Yes it will convert to steering but it will not plane off. Most lakes are 9.9 max, never heard of 6.6. Sure the sign was not upside down? :)9.9 however will plane with light loads. |

Yes, I know that [a limit of 6.6-HP] is weird, but pontoon boats are max 9.9 on this lake. If I have the small outboard motor already (which has a tiller), I can take off the bigger motor and then somehow attach the steering cables and rigging? Thanks! Robin |

Yes, you can on most 6-HP engines. You might need to buy controls, cables, and something to hook up to the steering on the engine. If the boat has an older style wire rope and pulley system steering and the same brand controls as your current 6-HP, it will be much easier and could be VERY simple. My older 13 had an older 25-HP Evinrude on it. I could have easily, with no modifications, strapped a 6-HP Evinrude or Johnson of the same era (1960's-early 1990's) on it in minutes. Then when you wanted to go off the lake it would be vice-versa. |
