Any recommendations on a swim ladder for a 17' Whaler with bow rails? I'd like something small and easily storable. Everything I see at Westmarine is to large and would take up to much room when not being used. Thanks. |

I went with a removable 3 step dive ladder that I mounted to the starboard transom. The bracket is bolted thru the embedded wood that was placed in the transom for a kicker motor. They come with mounting clips that I have mounted on the bow hatch. I attached them with wing nuts for easy removal when I need that area for casting on the montauk. There is no easy solution for the typical ladders with the low gunwales and the rails. Here is a picture of the mount and in the 2nd picture you can see the ladder on the bow. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v420/slipperyeel/NewDiveladdermount. jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v420/slipperyeel/Inslip.jpg Hutch |

Sorry. The ladder is obscured on the 2nd photo. It is on the bow but the throwable cushion is over the top of it. |

I used a windline 3 step foldable ladder at Boater's world for around $100. Easily stores in the console or cooler when folded. Made fromm SS so very stable as well. I think Garelick also makes one. |

I'll second that, the steps on the three-step ladder telescope completely and folded ladder is quite compact. The 11 inch hooks do OK over the gunwhale. I was going to put a swim platform on my outrage but opted for a 4 step folding ladder instead. Easier, less holes in hull, and easier to get up on for my 6-1 240# frame. |

We always would put one foot on the motors A/V plate, one hand on the motor hood and the other hand on the top of the transom and just climb in. I'm sure that approach may not be as effective as one grows older. |
