Hi everyone, I'm looking for some pictures of the rubrail for a 16' boat. In particular the corners at the transom. How does the rub rail terminate on the side. I know the insert wraps around the transom but the transome is slightly higher than the gunwales. Does the L-shape piece end before the transom and the rigid piece run right to the corner? Thanks, |

Bo, I saw those pictures, however, the 16' has a different transom transition to the gunwales. I was hoping someone might have a picture on how to terminate the rub rail on the older 16's. Thanks, |

Kevin, You need to tell us WHICH 16' Whaler you are talking about. The classic 16 footers have exactly the same transom transition as all the other small Whalers, so I suspect you have something different. |

On my '69 16' the transom does step up above the sides, but it is just inboard of where the white L runs. The white L on mine goes back to the aft edge of the transom and is cut flush just as the pictures referenced above shows. The white track does the same thing. The black insert is trimmed and positioned similar to the pictures but the inboard end as it wraps around is positioned a little lower from the top of the transom than what is shown in the pics since the 16' transom rises as it goes inward. It just needs to fold around the transom so it lays as flat as possible. Originally my 16' came with just the white L. No track or insert. The old white L was a little larger than the L that comes with the modern rub rail kit. The original L had the leg on the top of the gunwal trimmed flush to the aft edge of the transom and the side leg was longer and wrapped around the back and was fastened with a screw and finishing washer. When I redid my rubrail with the new kit I just reused the old fastener holes on the transom to anchor the ends of the black insert. |
