I have noticed a white powdery substance has started to accumulate around the threads of the in/out fittings of my Racor 10 micron fuel filter. This filter has been on the boat since day one and this is the first year I have noticed the substance. Coincidentally this is the first year my fuel has 10% Ethanol, which I'm starting to think isn't so coincidental.

There are no other signs of problems. The engine runs fine and there are no leaks.

I did notice a little brown gunk at the bottom of the filter bowl last time I changed the filter (which I do 3 times a season now with the Ethanol). But this has been reported by a lot of people in the ethanol topics.

I dod not remember what I used for sealant when I installed those fittings - it was something pretty standard, as I remember.

And yes, I replaced my fiberglass tank with plastic two years ago, anticipating problems.

Salt water use?
Do you moor or trailer?
How do the zinc's look?
How do the battery posts look?
Do you have a electric fuel gauge?

Its either salt water corrosion or Electrolysis.

Normal, don't give it a thought, just wipe it off, that stuff is for the metalurgists and chemical engineers.

I'm getting the same white powder since going to E10. Hate to see what the carbs look like.....especially after sitting and drying out

Sounds like aluminum oxide. Pretty normal after the white (or beige) paint from the Racor chips off it exposes the aluminum and this is what happens....wipe it off and you still got some years left on that filter housing.
