My tachometer is working fine, but the trim gauge is showing max tilt all the time. It does not move. The dealer that installed my new motor put a new harness in, but he thinks that it is the gauge. Anyone have problems with this? Also, if the speedometer is connected to the vacuum hose nipple on the motor instead of where the transom pickup is, will this register the speed on the speedometer? The transom pickup is there, but doesn't need to be if I can use the pickup on the motor lower unit.

Thanks,

TH

Remove the transom one and keep the one on the engine. Tilt is either the gauge or the sender on the engine. Since gauge reads, my bet is on the engine side.

Engine is brand new. Didn't work on the old motor, doesn't work on the new one. Harness between motor and tach is replaced with new Friday. Trim gauge still doesn't register. I'm stuck on this one. Also, WOT RPM was 5400 with a 13x19 pitch SOLAS 4 blade prop. Weight while testing was 1700 hull, 200 fuel, 450 3 people. Yamaha does not recommend a 4 blade prop for this motor, so what do y'all think I need to do? Do you think if I shed two people and run light on fuel, say 10 gallons, it would run more RPM? Yamaha states 5000-6000 and I know this is within that range, and the RPM at 115HP is 5500. Am I ok with the prop or should I go lesser pitch or 15x17 3 blade?

From what you said, do you have a Yamaha 4-stroke EFI and the newer command link digital gauges versus the LCD? IF so, there is a procedure to zero out the trim indication with the motor full down during initial setup/programing. It's in the rigging manual.

Sorry, it's the older LCD gauges. I thought they were all called Command Link..........It's the older gauge used with a new motor.

That may make it easier. Check the three switches beneath the grommet on the back. The LH switch position is set depending upon if 2 or 3 wires from the trim sensor. My guess is it's down now and needs to be up. May explain why it never worked for you. If changing the switch doesn't help?

You should probably switch to a 13x19 3 blade prop which would fetch you a couple more hundred rpm. A 17 might make too many rpms, especially since you have not tested it with a light load. Personally I think trim gauges on outboards are useless. Turn around and look at it.

Thanks y'all.......I'll give the back of the gauges a look. thanks for the advise on the prop too.
