I have a 1999 Yamaha 225 OX66 on my Outrage. I have noticed the last several times out the trim button on the binnacle will not trim or lower the motor down. It is intermittant. Continually pressing down on the button will finally get it to lower the engine.

The trim button located on the engine cowling always works and the last time out offered the only way to lower the motor.

Any suggestions on what to look for or replace?

Thanks
Sterling

Yes. I had that happen to me on my Revenge 22 with a 2000 Yamaha 225. What you have to do is take the binacle handle apart to get access to the switch. This is easy to do. The switch is encapsulated in rubber so you'll have to cut the rubber around the switch to get access to the electrical contact components.

The switch is a rocker switch. What happened to mine, and I think yours, is that the rocker came off the cradle such that the contacts on the rocker are out of alignment with the contacts on the base of the switch. You need to put the rocker back on the cradle so that the contacts are aligned.
