Author Topic:   Trailer choices for 18 Outrage - help

I have a time constraint and need a trailer to pick up an 80's 18 Outrage which I will be transporting a good distance. I do not have time for a new trailer and am looking to pick up something to make the trip.

What do I need to consider here? I have been looking at 18-20 ft (boat carry size) bunk or bunk/keel roller trailers rated for 2800#'s or greater. Will I likely be able to adjust these enough to get it to fit for travel or do I need to be particular as far as measurements (i.e width between the fenders, bunk position in relation to cross supports, etc)?

If (last resort) I had to use a roller trailer (there seems to be many available) would it be ok?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Where from and where to. The tandem-axle trailer that is usually under my 1984' 18' Outrage is currently sitting un-used, and will probably remain so for the rest of the month of August and potentially September as well. If you are nearby, and would like to rent it from me, we could work something out. It recently had new rollers, lights, and bunks installed and works quite well for that boat. It does not have brakes, and thus may not be legal for use in all states, depending on your total weight.

I am in Rhode Island and would be heading west. I think you are in Wa. But I appreciate the gesture. That would have been great

Larry,

I hadn't seen your other post. The trailer looks very nice and would probably be nice for an 18 outrage. I think you are a little farther(oak brook, IL) than I'll be able to travel. I was heading near Detroit.

I'll just throw this out there in case it might be possible. I'll be driving 12 hours to Detroit (leaving Sunday night/Monday AM--around 3 AM). Do you have anytime to meet closer to Detroit? I know that is a distance for you, and may not even have the time but just thought I'd ask?

Back home from picking up the Outrage and am very happy with getting such a nice boat. The trailer worked great.

Larry and his son are 2 of the nicest people you will ever meet. It's really good to know that there are people like this in the world today. Larry (who does not know me other than that we are both CW/WhalerCentral members) was willing to drive 5 hours and deliver the trailer as well as get it set up to fit the Outrage. The night before he ran into some significant car problems. That didn't stop them for a second as Larry had a hitch put on one of his other vehicles the next morning, a hitch that the store had to send someone out to Indiana to pick up! Thanks Larry (and Larry) I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help.

Torrey - All of my Whaler group enjoyed meeting you, seeing your new Outrage and helping out with the trailer fitting.

It turned out to be a great event. Sorry you couldn't have joined us for a late dinner! I hope the trailer works out well for you.

Thanks again.

Very glad to hear you got the boat transported. Even more delighted to hear you had such a wonderful experience meeting a fellow Whaler nut.

Well, on the off chance that anyone else needs a trailer for an 18' Outrage short-term, mine is still sitting with no boat on it, and probably will be for another 4-5 weeks. In fact, I really need to find a temporary home for it as it's parked in a spot where I'm really not supposed to leave it!
