Hi,

I am restoring a 66 Sport 13 and broke one of the Norman Pins while trying to straighten it. I believe that they are composed of the two brass pins threaded onto a brass thread stock right? It is broken flush with one of the pins. Should I be able to some how get that broken piece of threaded rod out of the pin and just replace with a piece of stainless rod the appropriate length? Wonder how to get the piece out though?

I am also missing one of the two tow hooks on the transom. I have a very similar hook piece but where would I find the inside brass ring/hook to match the other.

Thanks,

Tim

Mount it in a vice vertically, broken end up, squirt some penetrating oil in a few times for a couple of days. Then drill a vertical hole, start with a small hole and enlarge it as big as possible, Then it should be an easy job with an easy-out.

I agree with the penetrating oil. I use PB Blaster available at auto parts store. The different method I use is I heat the part with a torch. Remove the torch and cool with the p B Blaster. Wipe off the oil and do it again. after a half dozen heat and cool cycles removing the part with an easy out will be much easier. Never heat the easy out and be very careful with the torch and PB Blaster as the spray is extremely flammable. A propane torch will do. You have to heat the surface up around 400 Degrees F. Hot enough to really burn off the oil. Don't use WD-40 it just a waste of money for this application.

Watch the fumes of heated PB Blaster I understand they are not to be inhaled-read the label!
