My 1994 Yamaha 70 2 stroke motors leaks fluid from the cylinder, and slowly lowers itself out of the water when I tilt it up. What was the final fix in this thread? Is there a quick fix? I like this engine, and want it to last for 2 years, or as long as I own the boat, whatever comes first! |

Seals or check valve need to be replaced. Don't worry Sal, you'll sell it before the mechanic even gets the parts in. |

I understand that is an expensive repair. I dont want to do that. Clark Roberts posted about filling with transmission fluid and a "sealant". Anyone have luck with that? What sealant did you use? Thanks. And Nick... It is a new me. This boat is it. We are down to one boat, this boat, and will stay that way. I don't even want to repower, as this engine is simple, solid, and reliable. I am trying to shy away from complicated things. |

Which is the reservoir. I do not have a manual for my motor. Two Pictures: http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/photo-1.jpg http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/photo2.jpg Sorry for the silly question. I am thinking the screw in picture 1 is the reservoir screw, and the screw on the side bracket in picture 2 is the relerase valve? |

Yes, the bolt on the right hand cylinder in Pic 1 is the reservoir and the screw on Pic 2 is the release valve. Leaks often occur at the seals around the trim rams. Generally, a milky version of the fluid will ooze from these black rubber rings. If you are not seeing any milky fluid, you may just need to add some fluid. |

I JUST had this fixed on my 1987 225 HP Yamaha. It was the valve. It had to be replaced. Unfortunately since the motor is old, the part had to come from Japan so it took a while. |

Sal, Do you have a trailer bracket? My 1989 Yamaha did the same thing and all I did was use the trailer bracket. Ed |

My F100 1999 Yamaha is in the shop as we type, they should give me a call some time today. The motor would trim up as normal ,but slowly leak down. My freindly mechanic thinks it is the age of some of the rubber gaskits catching up with it. We are sure it is not the 3K hours on the engine.(lol) It should be more of a labor cost than parts. I will report back with a wallet damage report. |

Please do. My engine is actually fine after all, but I am curious what the cost of this might be if it were seals. I have been told a range from a few hundred to a few thousand. |

Few hundred maybe...few grand the guy is higher than hell on crack. It is most likely the check valve that I posted about 7 years ago just under Jim's initial post. |

Sorry if yours is leaking then it is probably the seals under the caps, easier to fix but parts are more if not just the 0-ring. If the main large rod is leaking it might be pitted and need to be replaced, believe it or not the part is cheap(under $100 I think). My mechanic would have you up and running in a day and "maybe" a few hundred to fix. |

I have a problem with my tilt trim on '87 90 hp Yamaha System operates and runs but engin will not go up or down. I have noticed some leakege in the water. Not sure where it is comming from but will take a closer look this weekend. I'm thinking its out of fluid. Has any one had the same problem and what was the repair process. Thanks Targa |
