Hi guys,

I'm planning on getting a 13ft whaler and converting it into a little bass boat. I know this might be sacrilege to some (sorry) but I love the size and stability of the whaler. My question is, would it still be stable if I put a casting deck on bow and the transom. I imagine it would be as high as the bench seats. I'm also looking for pictures. Thanks!

Aside from the sterotypical zero-freeboard and grossly oversized motor, what seperates a bass-boat from any other fishing boat?

The 13' Whaler is an excellent little platform that can be customized to do just about anything.

The only thing that would be sacreligous would be to do anything that would permanently impair the ability to restore the boat to original condition, such as painting, istalling glue-down carpeting, destroying the original wood components, or cutting into the foam cored hull. I have no problem with an owner customizing the boat to his own uses. I do, however, feel sad when the owner damages the boat in the processs.

CombatWombat Hi, im new here, but have had many whalers. Your bass boat conversion will workout great! Have done front decks on several models of whalers. Just keep it light...I have some pic's I will post later, when I dig em out..

My Striper 15' works pretty well as a 'bass boat' with the factory configuration. It has a forward pedestal seat and trolling motor. The only thing it is lacking is a casting deck on the rear, but it's no problem for a second person to stand up and cast.

I've found myself removing the pedestal seat most of the time though, it just gets in the way unless you are actually going to sit in it and fish. I usually prefer just standing in the bow to fish and run the trolling motor.

Anyway, here's how they set it up in the 15' version from the factory:
