I plan to add a Bimini top and a good cover to my 1979 Montauk. I am considering purchasing them both from Ameri-Brand Products. I'll be trailering it from Michigan to Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands area this winter for two weeks of playing, exploring and fishing, and I want to have a cover for the trip and a bimini for my wife.

When adding a Bimini to [a classic MONTAUK], do I need a three-bow or four-bow frame? Will I need a slider to position it properly when up? Will I be need to slide it forward to enable storing it far enough forward when collapsed?

Any experiences or suggestions with Ameri-Brand would be helpful. I have searched the archives and can't seem to find the information I am looking for.

I have a Bimini top on my 16-foot 7-inch. I set it up on slide rails so you can set it up in two different places on the boat. You want to be able to slide it all the way forward to lay it down on the front gunwale, and be able to tie it to the front norman pin. I have a four-bow top and the hardware is all metal; plastic will brake. I set the slide rails on top of the side gunwale. This gives you more room to stand under the top. Going to the 10,000 Islands make sure you bring sun tan lotion, bug spray, sun glasses and hat. This place also did not get its name for nothing, be careful driving around a lot of low places to run a ground, and get lost (it all looks the same) say in site of the markers...Have fun
