Hi. I [am] currently restoring my 1963 Boston Whaler. I believe it is an EASTPORT, but it is hard to tell because my grandfather made so many mods it does not look like any I've ever seen. Is there a place that I can find a serial number for the hull?

I've been fixing all of the chips and gouges and holes and everything in the surface of the boat this off-season. I [do not] have [a lot] of money for re-doing the whole gel coat. It looks like my grandfather had painted the hull of the boat at some point. Is there a special type of paint that you can buy for the outside of the hull? I want to get real marine paint and not house paint. I wanted to see what paints that people have had good experiences with. There are [a lot] of gouges, scrapes, and spidercracks in the gel coat because he practically lived in this boat. He would fill the boat up with gas cans and take it 20 miles off the [Jersey] shore. I used it every weekend last summer and want to make it look good for next summer. Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

The two-part epoxy paints with the trade names AWLGRIP and IMRON are often used to paint boat hulls. There are many prior discussions about these paints:

Your question about the location of a serial number is a frequently asked question. As a result, there is an excellent answer to your question in the FAQ. See:
