Just received my new interior from Mike @ Nautical Lumber.....it is SICK! Darn wood is nicer than most people's furniture. I am stoked to get my 13' finished for Homosassa now. I am totally tickled pink. For what it would cost to buy the wood alone, he made, finished with multiple coats of varnish, assembled, and shipped an entire interior. If you are on the fence or just want a showroom finish, go for it! I bought this boat new in 1982 and I doubt the wood looked that good. Thanks Mike.

You should see what he's got in his shop. Stuff would be at home on a $100,000,000 yacht. Seriously. |

Nick,While I am sure your interior is amazing I am sure you would feel it pales in comparison if you saw the Sakonnet Console and RPS he produces. Those are breath taking pieces. You should keep and refinish one of those beater 16' hulls you find all the time and put a new Console and RPS in it :P . |

I've been to his shop several times and it is impressive. We have been working on a project with Mike for the last couple months and I can affirm he is a super good guy, serious businessman who is committed to high quality products made from the best materials. Having spent considerable time in the wooden boat business in Oregon and the fact that one of my closest relatives a long time lumber broker let me say Mike is the real deal. Spread the word!! |

It is in the box(s) waiting till it gets warmer to install. Jimh has given me the OK to do a pictorial of it which he will put in the Cetacea section. He has not done a page in some time and this one should be cool because I am moving the interior forward as well. Therefore you will hopefully be able to see static trim differences.Jeff the last 2 16's I owned I paid less than what he wants for the seat(unfinished at that) and sold for what he gets ofr an unfinished console. There is no way to lipstick on those 2 pigs. However....if I ever do a classic smirked 17' I would love to paint it blue inside and put Mike's interior in it. If I did it next year we could call it the 50th Anniv edition. Think about what it would cost to buy a used console and RPS and you would not shell out too much more for his interior. |

I do have 2 small dilemas. One is I have a custom made box that fits snuggly under the front twart. I am NOT going to be able to use this as the front floor gradually ramps up and it won't fit if I move the seat forward. If I move the interior and then put my 9 gal tank under the front twart, that will be fine. I can then make a custom box for under the back twart. Mine would have fit but I have the wraparound(sourpuss style) seatback and railing that sticks down at least an inch under the seat so it won't fit back there as well. I could have had Mike make the seat to fit on top of the side rails and then my box would have fit...but then my railings would not fit properly and they are a VERY nice feature.2)I have a set of cushions for my interior and although they do help your arse, I hate to cover up Mike's beautifull artistry with them. |

Nick, I agree, i purchased a new set of four rod holders for my outrage. I could not by the materials and make them for what he did and they look great. Excellent workmanship and a pleasure to deal with. Mike is first class all the way Joe |
