I have a 1965 16 foot Nauset with the original console. I want to replace the steering system. Does anyone have any recommendations about what system I should purchase and knowledge regarding the length of cable to purchase. The motor is a 1985 Johnson 70 and the existing cable has a removable end that threads into the steering arm of the motor.

Thanks

I did the steering in my 1967 Eastport last spring as the old ride-guide system was having issues. I went with the Teleflex Safe-T QC system, and if I recall correctly I needed an 18 foot cable (I'd initially gotten a 16 foot cable but had to return it for the longer one, the guys at the boat store thought I was nuts). My motor is a 1977 70hp Johnson. The system was super easy to install, just needed to do a little trimming on the console for the new mounting system.

I too used the above steering system and it works great and super easy to install.
