I am making a gass dolly out of a 50 gallon plastic drum and a dolly out of a metal drum. What is the best sealer to use on th plastic "thru hole" valve fittings that I'll be installing through the sides of each drum?

What kind of plastic drum do you have? Some plastic drums have the bung holes at the top, this is what I would use. Even if you have a plastic drum with a removal top I would drill the holes for mounting any valve/thru hull/fitting on the top part. If it breaks or leakes you can fine/get a new top for repair... |

not sure what plastic material but it is heavy duty. Not too much flex in the valve areaI drilled hole on the bottom/side of the barrel, about 6"up from the bottom. the fitting goes through and it is the plastic type that is screwed on with a nut and rubber gasket |

The screw in/through type might not leak,,Once you have the valve in place do a leak test using some rubbing alcohol or a gal or gas,,make sure you test with the drum closed up tight and let the heat work on the valve to see if pressure makes it leak,, If you do get a leak try tightening the nut and if that dosent work get some rubber roofing used for flat roofs,,Gas will not eat this stuff and make gaskets for both sides,,Good luck |
