Here it is after 8 months in rehab. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/an86carrera/1977%20Montauk/ DSC_0081.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/an86carrera/1977%20Montauk/ DSC_0080.jpg I won't due a bottom painted boat again. But I am glad it's bottom painted because it is nice not to have to put it on the all the time. Len |

Len--That is a very fine MONTAUK. Your restoration was very well done. Also--excellent photography. |

Jim--Thanks Fish--Thanks, there is an 18 gallon aluminum tank in the console. |

I thought the tank might be there. Do you have an external fill and vent on the outside of the console for fuel or do you open the console door to fill the tank? I also noticed a battery switch on the console too. Are the batteries in the console too? It certainly opens the deck up, making it easier to clean and also look very clean. |

The fill is on the top of the console and vent on the side aft of the battery switch. Batteries are in the console. Len |

Looks pretty sweet. Do you by any chance have some pictures showing the inside of the console? |

Len- Boat looks great! I assume you wet sanded the hull. Can you explain the process you used? I've read many threads on CW regarding the process and it seems to differ depending on the oxidation level of the gelcoat. My Montauk looks similar to yours prior to sanding, and I'd love all the help I can get. Thanks! |

I did the gelcoat restoration in a way that will be frowned upon here and yes there are some swirl marks but the overall effect is good. I do not think this hull EVER saw wax in it's life. I sanded it dry with 120 grit on an electric random orbital sander then compounded with 3M heavy duty and finished with Finess-it II then waxed with Collinite carnuba. I tried the wet sanding thing first but was not getting thru enough of the chalked gel coat. I am happy with it it has been in the sun ervery day since Christmas and still has a great shine, the pics were taken this week without re-waxing. Taking a 120 grit electric sander to your boat is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced. Len |
